Tamari Sautéed Red Cabbage

I LOVE all the members of the cabbage family. White cabbage, red cabbage, kale, Brussels sprouts... They are all incredibly healthy and, prepared in the right way, so delicious.

This super simple side dish of sautéed red cabbage is as perfect on a week-night as on the Christmas table. The cabbage is flavoured with tamari and orange juice which makes it taste both salty and sweet. Tamari is like soy sauce but gluten and sugar free. It's also a bit stronger in flavour. In this recipe regular soy sauce might work just as well, but you may need to add a little more to get the same deep flavour as with tamari.

Today I arrived to my childhood home to celebrate Christmas with my family. I very much look forward to some relaxing days after quite a stressful autumn. And luckily for me my oldest sister is vegan too, so we will plan and make our Christmas feast together. I'm thinking lots and lots of kale and chocolate treats.

Tamari Sautéed Red Cabbage

Serves 4

1-2 tsp coconut oil
1 small head of red cabbage, shredded
2 tbsp tamari
2 tbsp orange juice
Salt and black pepper to taste

1. Heat the coconut oil in a saucepan. Add the cabbage and stir-fry it for a couple of minutes.
2. Add the tamari and orange juice. Lower the heat to medium, add the lid and cook for about 15 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Cook for an additional 5 minutes without the lid or until there is no liquid left in the pan. Serve hot or cold. Enjoy!
