Açaí Bowl

As my followers on instagram have probably already guessed, I love to eat smoothie bowls for breakfast. A smoothie bowl is an extra thick smoothie eaten with a spoon from a bowl. Or as my four-year niece has explained to my other sister: "Do you know what a smoothie bowl is? It's like a real smoothie, but you eat it on a plate". Yes, she's just as sweet as she seems.

I usually go for green smoothie bowls with lots of baby spinach and/or green powders. But lately I have also loved to make açaí bowls. Açaí is a small dark purple berry which grows in South America. The berry is very rich in antioxidants and it also has a high content of certain vitamins, minerals and healthy fatty acids. I also love the beautiful purple colour!
Açaí bowls are often made from frozen açaí purée, but because that isn't something you can find in my part of Sweden I use açaí powder that I mix with frozen banana and frozen blueberries instead. I like to add as little liquid as possible in my açaí smoothie, so it's almost like eating a delicious ice cream for breakfast.

Açaí Bowl

Serves 1


1/2 cup water
1 lime, juiced
1 tbsp hulled hemp seeds 
1 tsp pure vanilla powder 
2 tsps açaí powder
2 frozen bananas*
1/2 cup frozen blueberries

1. Blend water, lime juice and hemp seeds in a blender. Congratulations, you've made a tangy homemade hemp milk!
2. Add all remaining ingredients and blend until the smoothie is thick and smooth.
3. Pour into a bowl and top with more fruit, seeds or granola. Enjoy!  

* Freeze the bananas peeled and cut into pieces.
