Green Beauty: Body Butter

There's something incredibly satisfying about making your own beauty products. The skin is our largest organ and absorbs most of the products we apply to it, which means that it's good to try to avoid conventional beauty products as they're often chock full of all sorts of chemicals. Making your own natural and organic products is both fun, cheap and easy.

This sunny yellow body butter smells wonderfully of chocolate and lavender and it makes the skin amazingly soft and smooth. The colour comes from rosehip seed oil which is said to be very restorative to the skin. I love to use this body butter on my entire body (and sometimes even on my face) immediately after a warm evening shower or bath, then cuddle up in a fluffy bathrobe with a cup of tea. Total bliss!

Melt some extra cacao butter to make home-made chocolates. Simply add some raw cacao powder and a little coconut or maple syrup into the melted cacao butter and stir thoroughly. Pour into praline moulds and let cool in the fridge.

Body Butter with Cacao, Coconut, Rosehip and Lavender

1 jar

50 g raw cacao butter
3 tbsp coconut oil (virgin and cold-pressed)
2 tablespoons rosehip seed oil
8-10 drops lavender essential oil

1. Melt the cacao butter slowly over a water bath. Also melt the coconut oil if it is very solid.
2. Pour the melted cocoa butter into a glass jar. Add the remaining ingredients and stir well.
3. The body butter will solidify slowly. Stir a few times during this time so that the ingredients are thoroughly mixed together. If you have a very warm indoor temperature the body butter can be stored in the fridge to maintain its solid consistency.
